People are talking: Medications cost too much

July 31, 2017

Many were struck by the Voices for Affordable Health video featuring IlaMae Stucki. She retired early from her nursing career due to health concerns only to be forced back to work so she could pay for her health costs.

Stucki says she sometimes has to tell the pharmacist she simply cannot afford a prescription.

Unfortunately, she is not alone. Here’s a sample of some of the many responses to IlaMae Stucki’s story:

“I, too, had to give up some medications when two of them cost more than my whole month’s check,” Fred Peterson wrote in an email.

Shirley Burk shared: “My Medicare isn’t enough to cover the medical costs.”

Amanda Denney posted her direct and heartfelt response to Stucki on Facebook. “We need affordable health care,” she wrote. “I know without my dual insurance I’d have $3,000 in meds a month. You are a great, caring and wonderful lady that deserves to enjoy retirement with your husband and (to) be able to see your grandkids.”
