Oregon Cyclist Struck by an Ambulance Then Stuck With $1,800 Bill

November 7, 2024

An Oregon man recently filed a lawsuit claiming damages from an incident that is almost too bizarre to believe.

William Hoesch, 71, was riding his bicycle through a small town in Oregon in October 2022, when he was struck by a local ambulance. According to a report by OregonLive, Hoesch was pedaling between 5 and 10 miles per hour when an ambulance made a right turn, hitting him.

Hoesch’s bicycle was crushed, and he suffered a broken nose and other scrapes and injuries across his body. The ambulance had been returning to its station from another call, so operators scooped Hoesch up and took him to the hospital.

He was later billed $1,862 for the ride.

To date, Hoesch has acquired about $47,000 in medical expenses. His lawsuit seeks $997,000 in damages plus another $900,000 for pain and suffering.

The ambulance company declined to comment.
