New polls highlight Americans’ frustrations with rising prescription prices

October 12, 2016

khn-logo1Americans are frustrated with rising health care costs, and they blame drug companies for the increase.

A recent POLITICO-Harvard poll found that months of glaring headlines focused on skyrocketing prescription prices – as well as personal experiences with high drug costs — have influenced public opinion.

Meanwhile, an overwhelming majority of people surveyed by Kaiser Health News said they favor government action to restrain prescription drug prices.

Eighty-two percent of those polled said they want Medicare to negotiate prices with drug companies, something Congress doesn’t allow. Seventy-eight percent of people polled favored limiting the amount of money companies can charge for high-cost drugs, including those that fight cancer.
