Have you received a surprise hospital bill?
Pat Bracken was shocked to receive a $600 bill from the emergency room doctor who treated her husband. The bill claimed the doctor was not in the Brackens’ health insurance network, and they owed the full amount.
“It didn’t make sense,” Bracken shared recently on Voices for Affordable Health’s Facebook page. She immediately contacted a representative for their insurance company, who proved the doctor’s fee was covered under the company’s contract with the hospital.
The story ends well. “They had nothing to say at that point,” Bracken wrote. “But, man, were they aggressive with us before she became part of the conversation.”
