Issues We’re Watching

Raising our voices

More than 21,000 Voices for Affordable Health advocates in Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Washington state stand ready to take action at a moment’s notice.

Together, we tell our elected representatives and healthcare policymakers to protect consumers from sky-rocketing prescription drug prices and unreasonable hospital costs. We stand together for accessible, affordable healthcare.

Issues we’re watching:

ENDING BIG PHARMA PRICE GOUGING:

  • Too many Americans are forced to choose between buying food or filling a prescription. Through emails and on social media, Voices for Affordable Health advocates demand more action on the high cost of prescription medications.

  • We support the use of lower cost generics and biosimilar medications, and have spoken against Big Pharma’s anticompetitive practices that block more affordable options for consumers.

  • We want to end price gouging by drug makers and shine a light on their pricing decisions.

EXPOSING UNREASONABLE HOSPITAL & HEALTHCARE COSTS:

  • We want people to have access to high-quality, affordable care — including preventing people from paying hospital prices for doctor office visits.

  • Voices for Affordable Health consistently calls out so-called “surprise” hospital costs and hidden “facility fees,” and has advocated to limit hidden costs from ambulance transport and other emergency care.

  • We’re concerned that consumer costs, care and choices suffer when Wall Street investors buy a local hospital, clinic or laboratory — exploiting surprise-billing laws to pad their own pockets while consumers face rising premiums.

PROTECTING MEDICARE:

  • Medicare Advantage offers affordable, high-quality health care for more than 35 million seniors and people with disabilities, including benefits Original Medicare doesn’t cover — like dental, vision, hearing, and a cap on out-of-pocket costs.

  • Our advocates urge Congress to ensure the program remains strong for generations to come, and that funding keeps pace with the rising costs of providing care.

RESTORING ACA TAX CREDITS:

  • Millions of Americans without employer-sponsored coverage rely on an Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credit to buy their own insurance. Congress allowed part of that credit to expire at the end of 2025, causing premiums to rise dramatically and forcing many to forgo coverage altogether.

  • We’ve urged Congress to extend the enhanced ACA tax credits and will continue to push for Congress to restore affordable coverage for millions of working Americans.
